Broadway Ave and 70th Street • 3-vehicle collision • Car • Van • Tanker truck • East Tampa

TAMPA - Traffic is now back to normal on Broadway Avenue after a multi-car collision this morning. The crash occurred just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and 70th Street. The crash involved a tanker truck, an SUV and a white passenger van transporting eight work-release inmates.

The initial investigation by Tampa Police indicates that the red Saturn driven east on Broadway by a woman, crossed the center line and hit the westbound van carrying the inmates. The driver of the red Saturn was transported to Tampa General Hospital and is in critical condition. The driver of the van carrying the inmates sustained minor injuries.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the inmates are mostly in jail for violations of probation, according to the sheriff's office. All the inmates were also transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
