Business owner wants traffic light at Citrus Way and Ponce de Leon to avoid accidents ◊ Hernando County says 'no'

HERNANDO COUNTY - A Hernando County business owner is asking for a stop light at the intersection of Citrus Way and Ponce de Leon north of Brooksville. The speed limit on Ponce de Leon is 60 miles per hour, and the only traffic control device currently at the intersection is a flashing yellow light.

According to county records, there have been 29 accidents in the last three years at the intersection. Last week a person was killed and 32 people have been injured. "I'm not looking at the numbers here," Guelivindala said. "I'm looking at the lives of the people who are lost, who are disabled, who are hurt in this area.

We need desperately a traffic light here."The county said it has no plans to add a traffic light to the intersection, but said it might look at the issue again.
