LAKEWOOD RANCH ♦ GOLF CART ACCIDENTS ♦ Master-planned GOLF COMMUNITY in MANATEE COUNTY

MANATEE COUNTY – The 7000 acre master-planned, Lakewood Ranch Golf Community is reminding residents of the rules and regulations for golf carts. FLORIDA LAW:
  • prohibits carts to be driven on the sidewalks;
  • requires all drivers to have a valid driver’s license and obey the traffic laws when operating a cart;
  • only allows carts with headlights, brake lights, turn signals and a windshield to be on the designated roads before sunrise and after sunset;
  • requires carts to have working brakes, steering, safe tires, a rearview mirror and red reflectors in the front and back, on the roadways;
  • gives pedestrians the right of way before carts.

FLORIDA LAW Now Requires Kids Riding Horses to Wear Helmets • ALL children under 16 while riding on public roads

Florida's governor has ceremonially signed a law requiring children under 16 to wear a helmet while riding a horse on public roads. Gov. Charlie Crist signed the bill last week, but re-enacted it at a ceremony earlier this week at a park in Loxahatchee. It is named for Nicole Hornstein, a 12-year-old Palm Beach County girl who died in 2006 after being thrown from a horse she was riding. She was not wearing a helmet. Hornstein's family has tried since 2007 to get similar legislation passed. Under the law (HB 169), any person who allows a child to ride a horse without a helmet can be fined $500. Some Florida cities already have laws that require minors to wear helmets when riding, but the bill would make it mandatory around the state.

March is Florida Bicycle Month

Did you know? By Florida Law, bicycles are vehicles and have the same right of way to the roadway. As of 10-1-2007 it is Florida Law to pass cyclists by a minimum of 3 feet.
It is best for both bicycle riders and motorists to ride and drive in a respectful manner. Florida roads are to be shared by those who ride bikes and those who drive cars and trucks.

Bicycle Rules of the Road - Bicycle safety is a two-way street.

Be aware of these basics Rules of The Road

ONE - Bicyclists may ride on all Florida roads, except where restricted.
TWO - Bicyclists should ride on the road, and must ride in the same direction as traffic.
THREE - Motorists must at all times maintain a three-foot clearance when passing a bicyclist.
FOUR - Bicyclists must obey all traffic control signs and signals, just as motorists.
FIVE - Motorists and bicyclists must yield the right-of-way to each other.
SIX - Bicyclists should signal their turns and should ride in a predictable manner.
SEVEN - Lights and reflectors are required at night.
EIGHT - Bicyclists should always wear helmets.
