WALT DISNEY WORLD TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENTS ♦ 2009 - 2010

LAKE BUENA VISTA - April 1, 2010 - A boy riding a bike was hit and killed by a Disney bus near Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.  March 23, 2010 - A Walt Disney World bus rear ends a charter bus at the entrance to the Walt Disney World’s EPCOT theme park. Eight people were injured.  Nov. 2, 2009 - A girl was seriously hurt at Fort Wilderness when a golf cart in which she was riding overturned. They swerved to avoid another cart driving toward them without lights.  July 16, 2009 - Two Disney buses collided near Disney's Contemporary Resort. Twelve people were taken to the hospital. One of the bus drivers was charged in the incident.

WALT DISNEY WORLD – OSHA fine reduction – workplace safety issues

ORLANDO – According to the AP, a fine issued to Walt Disney World by a federal workplace safety agency (OSHA) for a serious violation that contributed to the death of a worker during a summer monorail accident has been reduced by 20 percent.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Walt Disney World signed a settlement agreement on Friday. The original fines totaling of $44,000 has been reduced to $35,200 for workplace safety violations.

Under the agreement, Disney says it will correct all four safety violations cited by OSHA.

Walt Disney World – ORLANDO - workplace injury - OSHA

ORLANDO – The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) cited Walt Disney World and urged them to follow monorail manufacturer operating instructions warning of potential hazards when moving the monorail in reverse. The manufacturer recommends using a spotter to watch a train backing up. The federal agency also urged Disney to provide written instruction and training for monorail console operators and to make sure a coordinator is in a control tower when directing monorail operations.

According to the resort’s chief safety officer, Disney World already has taken many of the steps recommended by OSHA.
