Two people have been hospitalized after a train hit a car at a railroad crossing in Polk County. According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Highway 98 at West Frostproof Road in Frostproof.
A CSX freight car smashed into a vehicle that was on the tracks. Upon impact the car was flipped over at impact and dragged fifty feet. The car hit the last two train cars, causing the derailment. The two people in the car were transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
The Florida Highway Patrol has closed Highway 98 just west of Highway 27 and Highway 98 just east of West Frostproof Road.
