Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A. I. T.) deputies continue their investigation to a fatal crash in Oldsmar. The crash occurred at about 12:34 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009 at the intersection of State Road 580 and Bayview Boulevard.
According to investigators, a 79-year-old driver of a Buick and a woman driving Toyota both entered the intersection at the same time resulting in a fatal crash. The driver of the Buick was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa for treatment of life threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased at 6:04 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009. The driver of the Toyota was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies say that at this time it appears that one of the parties ran a red light at the intersection. In addition the CSX railroad gate was damaged by one of the vehicles. CSX was notified in reference to the gate crossing damage and will respond to repair.
The investigation continues.
