PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A Bay area woman is recovering after police said she and her dog were attacked by pit bulls Saturday morning.According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, 79-year-old Betty Nebbia was walking her seven-pound Yorkshire terrier Ditto along Bahama Shores Drive SE in St. Petersburg when police said she and her dog were attacked by a pit bull and its puppy who were wandering in the same area.
Nebbia said that, when she tried to pull Ditto from the pit bull's mouth, the larger dog bit her on her arms and hands. Ditto later died from his injuries. Nebbia said she is having a hard time dealing with the loss of her dog. The two pit bulls have been placed with Pinellas Animal Control. Their owners have not come forward to claim them.
